What’s more fun than tossing a ball?
Tossing a ball into a cup — but making the cup and ball yourself.
We all know the classic ball and cup game, but what if you could create your own version with whatever beach items you’ve got laying around? That’s right, it’s DIY time!
What You’ll Need:
- A ball (You can use a crumpled piece of paper, a beach tennis ball, or even a smooth rock!)
- A cup (A plastic cup from a beach party, a small bucket, or even a discarded soda can will work!)
- String (Beach twine, a piece of yarn, or shoelaces — get creative!)
- Scissors (For cutting string, unless you’re just tying it to the cup’s handle, no cutting needed)
How to Build Your Ball and Cup Game:
- Make the Cup:
If you’ve got a plastic cup or small bucket, perfect! But if you’re feeling crafty, find a small container or even an empty bottle you can poke a hole in. If you have a bit of beach twine, tie it to the top of your cup. Make sure it’s secure. - Create the Ball:
Your ball doesn’t need to be fancy! A small rock, a rolled-up sock, or a beach tennis ball can all work. Just make sure it’s something light and easy to toss into your cup. Feel free to decorate it with some beach-found shells or markers! - Tie the String:
Cut a piece of string about 3-4 feet long (depending on how much space you want between you and your cup). Tie one end of the string to the top of the cup. Make sure it’s tightly knotted! You don’t want your cup to go flying away. - The Game:
- Goal: Toss the ball into the cup, swing it around by the string, and try to land the ball back inside!
- Level Up: Make it harder by adding more cups, increasing the distance, or tossing the ball into multiple cups!
- Beach Version:
Why not add a beach element? Try playing on the sand, and see if you can still make it happen without losing your ball in the dunes! You can also make it into a team game — one player catches, the other tosses the ball into the cup. Teams get a point for each successful toss and catch!
