You can technically visit Cape May in a day.
Technically.
You can also technically eat one potato chip.
Some things are possible in theory and completely ridiculous in practice.
Before you pack up the beach chairs, shake seventeen pounds of sand out of your shoes, and point the car north, here are ten things worth doing before Cape May waves goodbye…
10. Watch for dolphins offshore
You don’t need a boat tour. Sometimes they’re right there, cruising past the beach like they own the place.
Spoiler:
They absolutely act like they own the place.
9. Climb the Cape May Lighthouse
Yes…
there are stairs.
Yes…
your legs may briefly file a complaint afterward.
But the view at the top is worth every step.
8. Hunt for Cape May Diamonds
Not actual diamonds.
Let’s lower expectations immediately.
They’re polished quartz pebbles, but finding one somehow activates your inner treasure hunter.
7. Visit Sunset Beach and say hello to the SS Atlantus
Part ship.
Part mystery.
Part giant concrete thing sitting where giant concrete things probably shouldn’t be sitting.
6. Walk the Washington Street Mall
Shops.
Ice cream.
Coffee.
People watching.
Tiny purchases you absolutely did not plan on making.
5. Sit on a Victorian porch and do absolutely nothing
No phone.
No agenda.
Just sit.
Cape May practically invented slow-motion relaxation.
4. Try local saltwater taffy or fudge
Mandatory.
Your dentist understands.
3. Spot birds you suddenly pretend to know everything about
“Look! A…”
(long pause)
“Definitely a bird.”
2. Watch the sunset over Delaware Bay
Sunsets here feel unfair.
Like somebody quietly adjusted the sky settings.
1. Pause and simply look around
Because Cape May does this weird thing.
It sneaks up on you.
Somewhere between the dolphins, porches, birds, and beach air, you stop thinking:
“I’m visiting Cape May.”
And start thinking:
“Huh…”
“I kinda get it now.”
Maybe that’s Cape May’s final little trick…
It doesn’t demand attention.
It just quietly waits for you to notice it. ๐ ๐ฌ๐ โจ
