Flotsam Friday: Paper Plate Sea Turtle Craft

If winter has you missing the sea turtles down in Holgate, today’s Flotsam Friday brings the beach right to your kitchen table. This simple Paper Plate Sea Turtle Craft is perfect for kids, grandkids, or anyone who needs a little ocean magic in the off-season.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Green or sea-blue paint
  • Colored paper for flippers + head
  • Scissors & glue
  • Markers, watercolor, or crayons
  • Optional: sand, shells, glitter, googly eyes

How to make it:

  1. Paint the paper plate in soft ocean colors — seafoam, aqua, sandy tan.
  2. Add a turtle-shell pattern with markers or paint.
  3. Cut out four flippers and a cute little head, then glue them to the underside.
  4. Add eyes, a smile, or let your turtle be as mysterious as a foggy morning in Barnegat Light.
  5. Sprinkle a little real sand on the edges if you want that authentic “just crawled up the beach” look.

Post it in the comments, display it on the fridge, hang it in your beach house or on your Christmas tree, or make a whole nest of them.
Because even in December, we can still bring a little LBI sunshine inside. 🐢🌞
