Sonnet Sunday: The Sea in October

Where summer’s echo lingers, but the shore begins to dream.

The Sea in October

(an original sonnet by The Sandbar Society)

The sea in October forgets her applause,
Her crowd gone home, her laughter stored away.
She hums to shells and kelp in gentle pause,
And sighs through dunes where summer used to play.

The gulls grow sparse, their voices soft and spare,
The boardwalk lights wink out like tired eyes.
Footprints fade fast—no lovers linger there,
Just ghosts of heat beneath the cooling skies.

Yet peace returns upon her silver crest,
The tide exhaling all the months it kept.
The shore reclines, uncluttered, undistressed—
The world’s wide heart at last has softly slept.

So walk her edges, quiet and aware—
October’s sea still whisper, if you dare.

🌊 Your Turn to Write

We invite our readers to share their own sea-inspired verses – whether it’s a sonnet, a haiku, or a sea-brew (your own poetic concoction).

Drop your words in the comments or send them in for a chance to be featured in an upcoming Sonnet Sunday.

Let’s keep the shoreline singing – one poem at a time.
