Sonnet Sunday: Memorial Day at the Shore

Memorial Day arrives with flags held high,
with ocean wind that quiets down the noise,
a day to look the cost of freedom in
and honor those who never came back home.

The Shore feels different when we pause and see
the names behind the fireworks and parade,
the lives that stood between the dark and we,
the brave who kept their final promise made.

So we remember… not with empty words,
but with a steady heart, a grateful breath,
with silence where the seagull’s cry is heard,
with love that keeps on speaking after death.

And then we live… because they made it so:
the tide rolls in, and we keep saying “thank you.” 🌊🇺🇸🖤
